Built as a winery in 1816 by the Theunissen family, following the demolition of Willem Adriaan van der Stel's original wine cellar, the building was converted into a library by Lady Phillips to house Sir Lionel's collection of books.
Its serene interior encourages visitors to soak up the atmosphere of yesteryear.
